Summary:Izhak Ponie of Pompano Beach, FL and John Martin of Fort Lauderdale, FL, were sentenced in U.S. District Court in Fort Lauderdale in November 1998 for the illegal transport and dumping of hazardous, flammable waste. The two men moved half a dozen 55-gallon drums of flammable liquid to the grounds of the Hollywood/Fort Lauderdale International Airport, where they dumped it. Ponie was sentenced to 6 months' home confinement, fined $2,000, and placed on 3 years' probation. Martin was handed 3 years' probation and a fine of $2,000. The case was jointly investigated by OIG, the Environmental Protection Agency, the FBI, and the Florida Marine Patrol.
