Summary:Arrest warrants were issued for 69 individuals working at Salt Lake City Airport, UT, who used false information to gain access to restricted areas at the airport and some who lied about having criminal backgrounds. The workers were employed by private companies operating at the airport that provide services such as security screening; cargo handling; maintenance and construction in secure areas; aircraft fueling; food services, cleaning and housekeeping services inside the airport, on ramps leading to planes, and on the airplanes themselves. The arrests were part of “Operation Safe Travel,” a coordinated effort to prevent acts of terrorism that involved OIG, FAA, Social Security Administration OIG, U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service, FBI, U.S. Marshals Service, Utah Homeland Security, Utah Highway Patrol, and Salt Lake City Airport Police.
