Upper Mississippi River NAWQA.  Studies have been conducted since 1994 in the Upper Mississippi River Basin from the source at Lake Itasca to the outlet at Lake Pepin as part of the U.S. Geological Survey's NAWQA Program.  Goals of the NAWQA Program are to describe the status of, and trends in, the quality of the Nation's streams, rivers, and aquifers and to improve understanding of the natural and anthropogenic factors that affect the quality of these resources.
