NASA SIR-C Precision Data

Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar (SIR-C) Image

SIR-C/X-SAR (Spaceborne Imaging Radar-C/X-band Synthetic Aperture Radar) is a joint project of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the German Space Agency (DARA) and the Italian Space Agency (ASI). Data are collected in L-Band and C-Band by SIR-C, and X-Band by X-SAR. Two types of image products are produced by the ground data processing systems: the Survey product and the Precision (Standard) product. JPL is responsible for Survey and Precision processing of the SIR-C data, while ASI is responsible for Survey processing of the X-SAR data. Precision processing of the X-SAR data is shared between the ASI and the DLR. The Precision product is a frame image of a subset of the data take (swath). Only a small percentage of the acquired data will be processed into Precision products, whereas all of the science data are processed into Survey products. Flight 1 data processed before October 1, 1994 is not calibrated and flight 2 data processed before February 1, 1995 is not calibrated. However, the data can still be used for qualitative analysis. The Survey product is intended as a "quick look" browsing tool for viewing the areas imaged by SIR-C/X-SAR and is not designed to be used for quantitative scientific analysis. This system contains data that has been processed into precision products.

In fall 1996, the LP DAAC will assume responsibility for processing of new Precision products from user requests. For information on specific user Precision data processing requests, the DAAC Survey data interface has been modified to allow users to place requests for processing of data into Precision products. Future requests will be processed along image segment boundries to link new Precision scenes with Survey data.

This is an experimental server that allows for geographic searches and order requests. A geographic search can be done by entering coordinates on a form.
