In addition to research, the FreedomCAR and Vehicle Technologies Program supports many initiatives to bring energy-saving innovation and education to consumers. These include:

  • Incentive programs for fleets implementing alternative fuel vehicles (AFVs),
  • Detailed analyses of energy use and opportunities for increasing efficiency,
  • Development support for award-winning inventions developed by scientists at the U.S. Department of Energy's national laboratories,
  • Graduate education programs to engage some of our nation's best engineering minds in advanced transportation research,
  • Testing and evaluation of new technologies
