General Shelton to Visit Qatar, Oman and India
Gen. Henry H. Shelton, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, departs today from Andrews Air Force Base, Md., for visits to Qatar, Oman and India to discuss regional security issues with his counterparts and government officials.
In Doha, Qatar, Shelton will meet with Maj. Gen. Hamad Ali al-Attiyah, chief of staff, Qatar Armed Forces. Shelton will then fly to Muscat, Oman, for discussions with Lt. Gen. Khamis bin Humaid bin Salim al-Kilbani, chief of staff, Sultan's Armed Forces, before traveling to India.
Adm. Sushil Kumar, chairman, Indian Chiefs of Staff Committee and chief of Naval Staff, will host Shelton during his visit to New Delhi, India. Shelton will participate in a wreath laying ceremony at the World War I and World War II Memorial followed by a guard of honor ceremony at Vijak Chowk while in New Delhi. Shelton will also meet with senior Indian government officials.
Shelton will return to Washington on Friday, July 20.
