What's New

  • Five More Years of Public Service
The Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) is pleased to announce the extension of the Interagency Agreement with the Government Printing Office's (GPO) Federal Depository Library Program to provide public access to DOE full-text research information from 2003 through 2007. Providing this federal resource through GPO provides increased visibility and use of this valuable research collection. This partnership spans more than two decades serving the scientific community and the American public.

  • New Dublin-Core Metadata
The Information Bridge metadata is now in a streamlined Dublin-Core format, a set of data elements that was created to facilitate the discovery of electronic resources on the Web. Built through interdisciplinary, international consensus around a core set of metadata that is widely used, Dublin Core provides streamlined bibliographic citations that are easy to use.

  • Enhanced Search Capabilities
The newly released Information Bridge utilizes a full-text and bibliographic record index upgraded on Oracle 8.1.7.2. This new index offers increased search speed as well as more refined search results. You will also see an easy-to-use Dublin-Core date range search format.

  • Scientific Resources of Interest
Science.gov is a recently released gateway to the best of science provided by U.S. Government agencies. You will find over 11,000 Agency databases and Web sites to search through. Science.gov was developed by an interagency working group of 14 scientific and technical information organizations from 10 major science agencies. The science.gov Web site is hosted by DOE's OSTI, which also supplies the site's "deep Web search" capability.

EnergyFiles, the Energy, Science, and Technology Virtual Library has been available for several years, however, Version 3 has just been released. This site, developed by OSTI, now offers you the capability to combine a distributed search within a specific subject with a broad, multi disciplinary search through a dynamically created Personal Search Page. There are over 500 databases and Web sites to utilize.

Visit the new OSTI Home Page at www.osti.gov and discover and use resources developed to provide the public access to scientific and technical information. Resources include tools for cross searching bibliographic citations, full-text technical reports, preprints, and journal citations residing in multiple databases and Web sites at OSTI, across DOE, and beyond. Search Options, a distributed search feature, allows you to search through the major resources with a single query.
