Welcome

Photo of Wanda Jones.Welcome to the home pages of the Office on Women’s Health within the Department of Health and Human Services(OWH DHHS) -- the government's champion and focal point for women's health issues, and works to redress inequities in research, health care services, and education that have historically placed the health of women at risk. The Office on Women's Health coordinates women's health efforts in HHS to eliminate disparities in health status and supports culturally sensitive educational programs that encourage women to take personal responsibility for their own health and wellness.

We invite you to take a tour of our web site to learn not only about our activities and initiatives but also about those of the other agencies and offices of the U.S Department of Health and Human Services.

In November 1998, OWH launched a broad-based web site for women’s health information -- the National Women’s Health Information Center (NWHIC), today’s "women’s health central" for Federal and private sector information about women’s health for the public, health care professionals, medical researchers, educators and the media.

Take a few minutes to tour both our web site and NWHIC. From either site you can review our daily news section, browse our women’s health calendar, and check out our links to other federal women’s health programs.

Remember, the material contained in both our web site and on NWHIC is intended to help educate and inform you about women’s health issues. It isn’t a substitute for medical advice from a health care professional. Our goal is to simplify access to the wealth of women’s health information available in print and on-line from the Federal government and the public sector and to let you know how we are working in the Department of Health and Human Services to improve women’s health.

Don’t forget to let us know what you think of the our web site.  After all, our office was designed to help ensure a healthier future for all American women.

Wanda Jones, Dr.P.H.
Deputy Assistant Secretary for Health (Women’s Health)
U.S. Department of Health and Human Services
