Tribal Land Bidding Credits

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is committed to assisting people living on tribal lands to acquire telecommunication services.

The Commission has obtained a list of federally recognized tribal lands from the U.S. Department of Interior's Bureau of Indian Affairs and has made this information available to you. Included in this information is the telephone penetration rate (if known) and the number of square kilometers of the tribal territory.

Since tribal lands are often located in sparsely populated, remote areas of the country, tribal land bidding credits are offered to telecommunication carriers to help offset some of the costs of providing telecommunication services.

The information below is provided to assist you with assessing key data for acquiring telecommunications services in your tribal area.

Tribal Land Bidding Credits are only one of a number of initiatives the Commission has used to address the lack of telecommunications deployment and subscribership throughout Indian Country. For additional information on what the Commission is doing, visit the FCC's Tribal Home web page.
