Data and Information

Earth Science Parameters

The The Parameter Information Location Tool (PILoT) allows rapid location of archived earth science data and related information, based on on a hierarchical search starting with the following categories:
  • atmosphere
  • biosphere
  • cryosphere
  • oceans
  • radiance or imagery
The Parameter Information Pages provide essential information on many earth science parameters, with emphasis on those for which data are available from the GES DISC DAAC.

Disciplines

The DAAC has data, information, documentation, and user support services available for the following science disciplines (research areas):
  • Atmospheric Dynamics
Satellite observations and their use in global atmospheric circulation models.
  • Field Experiments
Aircraft and ground measurements of meteorological variables.
  • Hydrology
Satellite measurement of visible, infrared, and microwave rainfall for weather and climate research.
  • Interdisciplinary
Mapping of global land, ocean, and atmospheric parameters. Includes Geomorphology.
  • Land Biosphere
Satellite observations of seasonal global cloudiness, vegetation cover, and snow and ice.
  • Ocean Color
Remote sensing of interactions of incident light with substances or particles present in the water.
  • Upper Atmosphere
Satellite measurements of stratospheric (and above) ozone, chemical compounds, winds, and temperatures.

Applications

In addition to being used widely for science research, DAAC data are also being applied in projects with significant direct societal impacts. Current projects include the following:

Geoscience Collaborations

Data and information available at the DAAC are combined with a large variety of other resources in these collaborative projects:

Satellite and Instruments

Data and information are available from the DAAC for the following satellite instruments or suites of instruments:
