10/15/2004 - ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga. (AFPN) -- Civilian authorities arrested an Airman from here and his wife Oct. 13 in a murder-for-hire scheme. He was already in custody at a local holding facility facing separate Air Force charges.

Staff Sgt. Matthew Gladue, a weather systems technician with the 51st Combat Communications Squadron, and his wife, Jessica, are in the custody of a local sheriff’s department for criminal conspiracy and criminal solicitation to commit murder.

Sergeant Gladue has been in pretrial confinement in the county jail on Air Force charges of threatening the life of two co-workers and bringing a firearm on base in his vehicle, said Lt. Col. Mark Strickland, 78th Air Base Wing staff judge advocate.

Local officials said Mrs. Gladue was arrested for attempting to hire a hit man to kill a witness in her husband’s upcoming trial.

Sergeant Gladue allegedly told a co-worker on several occasions between October 2003 and July 2004 of his intent to kill two supervisors, according to the charges preferred by his squadron commander.

The firearm charge alleges Sergeant Gladue brought a 9 mm semiautomatic pistol onto the base between April and July.

The sheriff's department is working with the 78th Security Forces Squadron on the investigations.

Sergeant Gladue maintains equipment used in field stations to track the weather. He has been in the Air Force since January 1995 and arrived here in May 2002.
