Need a quick backgrounder on a breaking crisis in the Middle East? Trying to track down the text of a recently signed peace agreement in the Balkans? The U.S. Institute of Peace offers a wide array of such resources to reserachers, policymakers, the media, civic organizations, and the general public.
- Library and Links
As part of its Digital Library Project, the Institute has placed online the full text of peace agreements, documentation related to inter- and intrastate conflicts for many different countries and regions, and descriptions and documents related to truth commissions worldwide. Annotated web links access online information on numerous countries and regions around the world from the Balkans to Chiapas, Mexico. These pages also include a wide array of resources on foreign affairs topics such as terrorism and counter-terrorism, human rights, and peacekeeping. The Institute also maintains lists of links to the websites of research centers in international relations, foreign affairs ministries, international organizations, and search engines.
- Guide to Specialists
The Guide to Specialists is intended as a resource for civic organizations, print and broadcast journalists, radio and television producers, policymakers, and others who need or want expert information on regional and international affairs topics.
Specialists listed include permanent staff members of the Institute and senior fellows of the Jennings Randolph Program for International Peace. The guide features an alphabetical list of specialists; an alphabetical list of areas of specialization (divided into geographic regions and functional topics) cross-referenced to the persons with expertise in these areas; and biographical entries with detailed information about each specialist.

The Institute frequently organizes public meetings to discuss and examine breaking issues of interest to foreign affairs policymakers, the news
media, and other foreign policy professionals. Designed to explore important issues more substantively than a typical news "sound bite" allows, these
briefings feature expert analysis and commentary. The Institute often webcasts these events live, allowing the dialogues to reach interested audiences
beyond the Washington "Beltway." Questions for speakers have come from as far away as Mongolia and Bulgaria via e-mail during live-interactive
Institute webcasts.
- Teaching Guides
While each guide provides teaching units geared toward specific topics--such as international terrorism, the U.S. military's role in international peacekeeping, justification of war, and preventing violent international conflict--they are also designed to help students develop an understanding of international affairs and conflict resolution, as well as analytical and writing skills.
