HELPING MILITARY FAMILIES

The Fisher House program is a unique private-public partnership that supports America's military in their time of need. The program recognizes the special sacrifices of our men and women in uniform and the hardships of military service by meeting a humanitarian need beyond that normally provided by the Department of Defense. These homes enable family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful time -- during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease, or injury.

There are currently 32 houses located on the grounds of every major military medical center and several VA medical centers. These houses play a key role and are a vital asset to our military by allowing them to care for casualties, and their families, from Operation Enduring Freedom and will play a critical role in caring for casualties from Operation Iraqi Freedom as well.

It is our goal to create "a home away from home" that allows guest families the opportunity to address any challenge they must face during a time of crisis with dignity, and to give them a sense that there really are those who care about them in their time of need.

HOW YOU CAN GET INVOLVED

Please note: It is our policy that 100% of funds designated for a specific purpose are to be used for that purpose. We do not charge a percentage against your donation to cover overhead. Nor do we pay any processing fee on your credit card donation. At Fisher House our overhead percentage from our last audit was 7.1 %.

You have many opportunities to get involved and bless these families in need:

Your gift will be used to help meet the cost of lodging for a family whose loved one was injured in Operation Enduring Freedom or Operation Iraqi Freedom. There is a limit to the number of families who can stay in a Fisher House. We are committed to help provide lodging for families who must find commercial lodging, because the Fisher House is full.

With your support, we are proud to have provided over $98,000 in assistance to Iraqi Freedom families!

Fisher House supports military personnel wounded in action and those seriously ill being treated in military hospitals in the U.S. and overseas. Your donation of "Gifts from the Homefront" certificates will ease the burden for military personnel and their families at a most stressful time in their lives.

With your support, we are proud to have provided over $14,000 in assistance through "Gifts from the Homefront."

Fisher House is proud to be one of a select group of national organizations participating in special program that provides military families in need with gift certificates that can be used to buy food and staples through the commissary (the military's grocery store). Your gift help meet the basic needs of a family during a stressful time.

With your support, we are proud to have provided over $36,000 in assistance through Certifichecks.

The Michael E. DeBakey VA Medical Center in Houston will be the 7th Fisher House supporting the Department of Veterans Affairs. We are grateful for the generosity of the leading corporations and foundations in Houston who have made this Fisher House possible. Former President George Bush (41) helped break ground on January 16 for this 14,000 square foot facility.

With your support, we have provided over 700 tickets to Iraqi Freedom families worth over $420,000.
