DEA Little Rock Educates Public About Meth

SEP 21--During a September 18th “Fun Daze” and Open House, Special Agent Keith Warzecha used the DEA clandestine lab truck to educate the public on the dangers of methamphetamine production and use.

The theme of the event was “healthy lives begin with drug-free youth” and was sponsored by members of Arkansas coalitions including the Young Marines and Arkansans for Drug Free Youth (ADFY). Other activities based on the Arkansas Governors health initiative included martial arts exhibitions in Kendo, Jujitsu and Judo and food and games for the children.

SEP 13--William J. Renton, Jr., Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration's New Orleans Field Division recently visited a unique marijuana growing operation in Oxford, Mississippi. This facility is managed and operated by the University of Mississippi. The marijuana produced on this farm has the government's stamp of approval and is supplied to support various research projects around the country. Accompanying SAC Renton; were Jackson, Mississippi District Office Assistant Special Agent in Charge Marshall L. Fisher; and Oxford, Mississippi Resident Agent in Charge Lynn H. Mead. The tour was provided by University of Mississippi School of Pharmacy Principal Research and Development Chemist Zlatko Mehmedic, M.Sc.Pharm and Research Professor Mahmoud A. ElSohly, Ph.D.

AUG 31-- In a coordinated effort Agents and Task Force Officers of the Drug Enforcement Administration, State Police, National Guard, Marines, and local Arkansas Sheriffs and Police Departments participated in a Marijuana Eradication program. After using helicopters to spot the marijuana from the sky, ground crews cut down marijuana plants, collected evidence and made arrests in several Arkansas counties.

DEA New Orleans in Anti-Drug Message

AUG 5--On August 5th, Special Agent Keith Warzecha and Olympic Judo Team Member Scott Jones took the opportunity to address Judo students at the Little Rock Judo Center on the importance of a drug-free life. Just before departing for Athens Greece, Jones, a Judo competitor in the 90 kilogram weight class, stressed to athletes the importance of hard work, discipline and sportsmanship to accomplish life-long goals. Special Agent Warzecha, the Demand Reduction Coordinator for Arkansas, is one of several coaches at the Little Rock Judo Center and routinely addresses the dangers of illegal drug use.
