Contacting the HDSC
The
Hydrometeorological Design Studies Center is located at the
National Weather Service Headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.
We are part of the Office
of Hydrologic Development's Hydrology Laboratory.
The Hydrometeorological
Design Studies Center prepares national standards for Precipitation
Frequency(PF) and Probable
Maximum Precipitation(PMP). Both are used for a multitude
of planning and design purposes, from reservoirs to local storm
water drainage. The information we provide allows civil engineers
and public officials to account for different levels of rainfall
in their designs and plans.
In our work
we:
- Collect,
store and quality control rainfall and other meteorological
data
- Analyze
extreme rainfall events
- Apply
complex statistical methods for extreme rainfall events
- Conduct
site specific analyses upon request.
- Serve
as a review group within the United States and internationally
- Respond
to questions regarding past and future studies.
