The BLM has issued a proposed Resource Management Plan Amendment and Supplement to its Final Environmental Impact Statement for fluid mineral leasing in Otero and Sierra counties.

Map of El Camino Real de Tierra AdentroManagement Plan Adopted for El Camino Real National Historic Trail
The National Park Service and BLM have adopted a comprehensive management plan for El Camino Real de Tierra Adentro National Historic Trail, the “royal road to the lands of the interior,” traveled in 1598 by New Mexico’s first Hispanic colonists. 

The management plan calls for an ambitious program of resource protection and visitor opportunities, including an auto tour route, a certification program to bring privately-owned sites into the trail program, and coordinated interpretation and educational projects.

WASHINGTON—Rebecca Watson, assistant secretary of the Interior for Land and Minerals Management announced the availability of a Draft Programmatic Environmental Impact Statement on Wind Energy Development on BLM-Administered Lands in the Western United States. The public comment period ends December 10, 2004 .

Special Status Species Amendment for Carlsbad and Roswell Field Offices
Lesser Prairie ChickenThe Bureau of Land Management (BLM) will soon initiate an amendment to the Roswell and Carlsbad Resource Management Plans. The amendment is designed to address land-use decisions affecting special status species, primarily the habitats of lesser prairie chickens and sand dune lizards.

This year, 2004, marks the 150th anniversary of the founding of Fort Craig. The BLM, with its many partners, will help commemorate this occasion with a multi-day event. Commissioned in 1854, Fort Craig was one of the largest frontier forts in the West.
