Forest has outstanding opportunities for recreation, special habitat
management, unique species viewing, sustainable ecosystem and watershed
management.
Snow Storms restrict access in elevations above 5,000 Feet - Campground water systems turned off for season -
On October 17-19 a snow storm dumped about 12-18 inches of snow in the Medicine Lake Highlands restricting access and forcing early turn off of the water system. Water systems have been turned off in all developed campgrounds except Howard's Gulch which will be turned off by the end of the month.
Fire Restrictions
Canceled - Fire Season Ends
Fire restrictions on the Modoc National Forest have been canceled, effective at midnight on September 20. When visiting the forest be aware that we have had our first snow in some higher elevations above 5,000 feet.
As of October 18th at 4:30 PM, Modoc will go out of fire season by reducing the services of our suppression and detection resources. We will no long announce Sale Activity Levels or Project Activity Levels.
All Suppression resources will go to a Monday-Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM tour of duty.
All detection resources will be out of service as of October 18th at 4:30 PM.
Modoc Hotshots in support of the Regional and National effort will continue with their Fri-Tue tour with Wed and Thurs. off.
Modoc Command Center will continue with 7 day coverage, 8 AM - 4:30 PM until October 30th.
Emigrant Trails Scenic Byway
Emigrant
Trails Scenic Byway Designated. As a result of a
united community effort supported by a Grant from the Forest Service,
the Forest Service designated the Emigrant Trails Scenic Byway.
