Volunteering
Volunteer InformationVolunteers are the heartbeat of the Forest Service. The types of work a volunteer can perform are many and varied; the only tasks a volunteer cannot carry out are those associated with law enforcement. Your talents and skills are matched with your work preference to obtain a role that satisfies you and best fulfills the mission of the Forest Service/USDA. You may work on a part-time or full-time basis. You can participate in a one-time project or serve over several months, seasons, or year-round. The commitment you make is up to you. Training may be provided to you if your job requires it. We also suggest you contact our Supervisors Office to learn more about the opportunities to volunteer on the Modoc Rivers National Forest. Volunteer applications may be requested by calling (530) 233-5811.
National Information on Forest Service Volunteer Programscan be obtained by clicking here. Passport in Time ProgramThe Modoc National Forest provides annual opportunities for volunteers to participate in the Passport in Time Program. If you are interested in participating on the Modoc National Forest please call Gerry Gates at (530) 233-8731. Passport in Time (PIT) is a volunteer archaeology and historic preservation program of the USDA Forest Service (FS). We invite you to work with professional archaeologists and historians on projects including archaeological excavation, rock art restoration, survey, archival research, historic structure restoration, gathering oral histories, or writing interpretive brochures.
