CALL
FOR PROPOSALS
FOR
NEW COLLABORATIVE RESEARCH
The Ames Laboratory, a research facility of the U.S. Department
of Energy that is run by Iowa State University, is soliciting proposals
for seed funding for new interdisciplinary collaborations between
junior faculty in academic departments at Iowa State University and
Ames Laboratory Associates and Scientists.
Proposals submitted in response to this solicitation should fit broadly
within the Ames Laboratory mission. Projects within any area of biology,
agriculture, physical science or engineering are eligible for funding.
Projects that connect physical sciences or engineering, within the
Ames Laboratory, with biology are especially welcome. Current scientific
programs within the Laboratory span a wide range of topics as can
be seen on by following the Scientific
Research link (at left) to
the various program areas. Investigators are encouraged to contact
us at newinit@ameslab.gov with
a brief description
of potential projects and any questions regarding the scientific
programs of the Ames Laboratory.
The solicitation is open to faculty at the rank of assistant or associate
professor, who arrived at Iowa State University within the last four
years. The PI will become an Associate of the Ames Laboratory over
the period of the project and, working together with current Ames
Laboratory Associates and/or Scientists, will have access to the
Laboratory’s facilities. The proposals do not necessarily need
to identify Ames Laboratory collaborators, as assistance in identifying
collaborators will be provided to the successful applicants. Should
the proposed research be successful, the PI will be expected to submit
a proposal through the Ames Laboratory to extend the research program.
The Ames Laboratory anticipates funding 5-6 projects up to $12,500
this year.
