The Agricultural Research Service (ARS) has made a full commitment to fair and equitable treatment of both customers and employees in the performance of our mission. In today's society, it is critical that the staff composition of any organization be reflective of society to ensure that the needs of all Americans are being met in our research programs and agency mission. Solving the Nation's agricultural research problems requires talented employees from all walks of life.

ARS employees, supervisors, and managers are committed to building, maintaining, and retaining a diverse, high-quality workforce where employees are recognized and their talents are valued; barriers to employment are eliminated and all employees are treated fairly in the performance of their assigned duties and responsibilities; and employees are encouraged to openly express their ideas and opinions to solve problems of national and international scope.

In our recruitment efforts, we reach out to diverse communities in many different ways. Our employment opportunities are published widely through the Office of Personnel Management's USAJOBS web site, as well as on the ARS web site. Our vacancy announcements are distributed by mail to colleges and universities and outside organizations that reach a large population of minorities.

ARS regularly participates in outreach activities, including career fairs at colleges and universities, and provides sponsorships and takes part in career fairs and conferences that reach out to individuals in under represented groups. Recruitment advertisements are placed in periodicals, journals, and newspapers which reach varied audiences.
