Passes & Permits

Photo of a person riding horseback though a meadow.Most National Forests and Grasslands, including the Bighorn, are open, free of charge, for your use and enjoyment. Fees may be charged and permits required for some activities and locations. Business permittees, such as campground concessionaires and outfitter guides, may provide services to public land users.

 

 

Golden Passports

The Bighorn National Forest does not have a general entrance fee; however, the Forest continues to honor Golden Age and Golden Access Passports at all fee campgrounds.

Golden passports can provide either free entrance or a discount for certain recreation fees. There are three types of passports available:

  • Golden Eagle—for the
    general public, $65
  • Golden Age—for senior
    citizens, $10
  • Golden Access—for
    blind or permanently
    disabled individuals, FREE

Permitted Services

To obtain campground, outfitter guide, and other services from commercial companies who operate through Forest Service permits, please contact them directly.

Permits

Permits may be required for certain individual and commercial activities that occur on the Forest including, but not limited to, the following:

  • Advertising
  • Christmas trees
  • Collection
  • Filming and photography
  • Fire
  • Firewood
  • Mushroom
  • Off-highway vehicle
  • Post and pole
  • River
  • Road
  • Outfitter/guiding
  • Wilderness

Forest Product Permits

Information on Christmas tree, post & pole, transplants, or firewood permits. These permits are available at all district offices.

 

 

Recreation Fee Demonstration Program

This program charges recreation fees, which are in turn reinvested in our recreation areas to maintain, improve, and develop natural resources, recreation facilities, and services.
