Outreach
Congressional Briefings: Engaging members of Congress and their senior staff in Research and Studies activities where appropriate.
Media Interviews/Op-eds: Raising the public profile of Institute work through regular contacts with national and foreign media. Op-eds that draw on and are timed to coincide with relevant Research and Studies publications/activities will be particularly encouraged.
Conferences: Major conferences that attract senior policy makers and leading experts not only serve to showcase the work of the Institute but also help to reinforce its role in enhancing U.S. capacity for conflict prevention, management and resolution. The "Passing the Baton" conference in 2001 that was initiated by Research and Studies is a successful example of such an event. With this in mind, Research and Studies also organized a major conference in early September 2002 to coincide with the first anniversary of the September 11th attacks. The conference examined the challenges to peace that have either emerged since or have been exacerbated by the 9/11 attacks and thus went beyond a narrow focus on terrorism and homeland security.
