What's New (5/17/04)

*** SPECIAL NOTE - 4/13/04 ***

We have moved the External Grants website to a new server and are still working on some problems with the "Reports" section of the site. Thanks for your patience.

FY2005 Proposals Closed!

The deadline for receiving FY2005 proposals, May 6, 2004, has come and gone. We had excellent response to our solicitation and have received 272 proposals, the same number as last year.

We will be sending out post cards to all the investigators who submitted proposals this year; the post card will include your Proposal Number, which will look something like: 20050275. You should use this number if you need to refer to your proposal for questions, etc.

After we make sure that all the proposals have been assigned to the correct regional/topical panels, the Regional Coordinators and their review panels will be reviewing the proposals. The actual proposal reviews will occur over a two-week period in mid-August. Results of the funding decisions will be sent out in mid- to late-September, depending on the status of the Congress's deliberations on the USGS budget

New Option for Final Technical Reports

We have required Abstracts of all Final Technical Reports to be submitted in electronic, preferably html or pdf, format for a while now so that they can be put on our web site. Recently we have begun putting the complete reports on our web site, too, when we receive them in html or pdf format. This option enables the research community to obtain the full report without going through a USGS library for hard copy. While it is not yet required, we are urging all investigators to consider putting their Final Technical Reports in either pdf or html format so that the world can see the fine research that's being done.
