USAID Mission to Pakistan Introduction to USAID Pakistan
USAID returned to Pakistan in July 2002 after seven years, as part of the United States Government’s commitment to help Pakistan in the fight on global terrorism. The new USAID office is located inside the U.S. Embassy in Islamabad. The program is focused on four areas: education, governance, health and economic growth. To date, USAID has signed four agreements (called Strategic Objective Agreements) with the Government of Pakistan for those sectors, totaling $306 million in commitments. All USAID funds are grant funds. USAID operations are severely constrained by the security situation in Pakistan. Staff and office space are very limited. USAID has adapted to this situation in several ways. It is staying focused on four areas, outsourcing some USAID functions to private firms, using Pakistani organizations as much as possible to implement its programs and partnering with other donors wherever possible... more>>
