Dear Colleague:

On November 2, 1998, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) will introduce its 3rd generation of electronic enhancements with the introduction of the Transportation Electronic Award and Management system or the TEAM system. This will make FTA’s mission critical grant management systems Year 2000 compliant without interrupting the FTA grant delivery process. The TEAM system uses the system clock on the workstation, which means that only workstations that are Year 2000 compliant will be able to use the software after December 31, 1999.

The TEAM system has evolved from the success and acceptance of the Electronic Grant Making and Management (EGMM) initiative that started five years ago. The system utilizes Graphic User Technology; providing point and click "Smart" selections that aid the grant recipients with their business process for submitting applications and management reporting of their grants.

In preparation for the release of the TEAM system, FTA initiated a customer outreach program to the transit industry. FTA personnel have traveled to 30 cities to conduct hands-on training sessions, which have attracted over 1,200 transit industry professionals. FTA will continue these training sessions until we reach everyone who uses our programs. Starting September 30, 1998, FTA began distributing the TEAM software to grantees at no charge.

Additional information about this new TEAM system and how to register for its free software is enclosed. If you are not already a registered user for this electronic system, please contact your local regional office to begin the process. As always, we look forward to continuing our working partnership with your organization in the introduction of this exciting new system.

Sincerely,
Gordon J. Linton
