TVA Seeks Comments on Proposed Power System Improvements in Bradley and Hamilton Counties

Mar. 25, 2004

COLLEGEDALE, Tenn. — TVA will hold an open house in April to hear public comments on proposed power system improvements in Bradley and Hamilton counties, including alternative locations for a new substation in the area.

The open house will be held from 3 p.m. -7 p.m., Thursday, April 8, at City Hall, 4910 Swinyar Drive, in Collegedale.

The proposed power system upgrades and new substation are necessary to help ensure the stability of TVA’s generation sources in the local area and reliability of power for consumers in TVA’s southeastern service region.

A significant amount of the work associated with the project will take place at existing TVA facilities. The project also includes the construction of a new 500-kV substation near the border of Bradley and Hamilton counties. TVA is considering four alternative sites for the new substation, each of which will require 50 to 60 acres of property in the Apison area.

Detailed maps showing alternative locations of the substation and associated transmission line connections will be available at the open house, and TVA staff will be on hand to answer questions, discuss issues and receive comments on the proposals. The maps also are available on this Web site; see the Power Projects page.
