Jack Don Lokey Jr. Named TVA Engineer of Year

Jan. 14, 2004

Don Lokey of TVA’s River System Operations and Environment organization in Muscle Shoals has been selected TVA Engineer of the Year for his work to ensure that TVA power plants meet or exceed air quality requirements.

Lokey, an environmental engineer, was recognized today at a TVA Board meeting in Knoxville. He was selected for his leadership and creativity in preparing permit applications and a comprehensive emissions database to help TVA meet environmental regulations.
He also has been chosen as one of 10 finalists for Federal Engineer of the Year.

“Don Lokey’s work demonstrates TVA’s commitment to cleaner air and our environmental awareness,” said TVA Chairman Glenn McCullough Jr. “His leadership in ensuring TVA’s compliance with air quality requirements helps TVA set the standard for environmental excellence.”

TVA Environmental Executive Kate Jackson presented a certificate to Lokey at the board meeting. “Don is being recognized for achieving engineering excellence in an entrepreneurial environment,” Jackson said. “His efforts especially are noteworthy when one considers his ability to balance his striking TVA contributions with selfless community service, especially in helping instill in middle-school students an interest in pursuing technical careers.”

The winner of the Federal Engineer of the Year award will be announced at an annual awards luncheon Jan. 15 in Washington, D.C.

Lokey, a resident of Florence, Ala., has been with TVA for 24 years. He earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees in chemical engineering from Auburn University and is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers. In honor of Lokey, TVA will donate $1,000 to Auburn University’s College of Engineering.

TVA is the nation’s largest public power provider and is completely self-financed. TVA provides power to large industries and 158 power distributors that serve about 8.3 million consumers in seven southeastern states.
