Good Start, Grow Smart The Bush Administration's Early Childhood Initiative | |||||||||
NCCIC and other CCTAN partners have been providing technical assistance to States and Regions on the Good Start, Grow Smart (GSGS) initiative since the fall of 2002. The materials in this section are representative of the tools, presentations, and resources developed and used with States and Regions on the major components of GSGS: early learning guidelines, professional development, and program coordination and financing.
States are developing, revising and/or implementing early learning guidelines identifying outcomes in such domains as language, literacy, pre-reading, and numeracy, among others, for children ages 3-5. This is a selected list of guidelines referenced in the CCDF State Plans for 2004-2005.
In support of the Administration's Early Childhood Initiative, Good Start, Grow Smart, the Child Care Bureau joined the U.S. Department of Education to share information with leaders in the States at four regional Early Childhood Educator Academies. The Academies provided information to assist States in developing or strengthening the voluntary early learning guidelines on literacy, language, and pre-reading skills activities for children ages 3 to 5 that align with State K-12 standards that are required under Good Start, Grow Smart.
