EPSCoR was established by NSF in 1979 to ensure greater geographic distribution of Federal funding of academic research and development, while maintaining the highest quality, merit reviewed research. Through EPSCoR, NSF has sought to improve the quality of science in Montana by working with the state to build on its existing strengths, helping establish research priorities, and creating supportive structures to enhance the competitive position of scientists in the state. Participating institutions have included: University of Montana, Montana State University and Montana College of Science & Technology.
- Engineering Research Center (ERC) at Montana State University
involved in research on Interfacial Microbial Process Engineering in
collaboration with the Idaho National Engineering Laboratory.
- The All Nations Alliance For American Indians -funded through the NSF Alliances for Minority Participation Program - is a comprehensive effort by the following nine states: Montana, Washington, North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Minnesota, Michigan, Wisconsin and Kansas to increase substantially the quality and quantity of American Indians receiving baccalaureate degrees and graduate degrees in Science, Engineering and Mathematics (SEM). The alliance will develop and implement innovative programs with input from both the Indian community and the SEM community to enhance matriculation of American Indian students.
