President Bush to Nominate One Individual to Serve in His Administration and Six Individuals to Serve as United States Attorneys

President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate one individual to serve in his administration and six individuals to serve as United States Attorneys.

The President intends to nominate Kevin Moley to be the Representative of the United States of America to the European Office of the United Nations with the rank of Ambassador. Mr. Moley is a member of the Board of Directors of several businesses including Cephalon Incorporated and Perse Technologies. Most recently he was President and Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Management Systems in Golden, Colorado, and from 1993 to 1996, he was Senior Vice President of PCS Health Systems. He served as Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services from 1991 to 1993, and was Assistant Secretary for Management and Budget at HHS as well as the Vice Chairman of the President's Council on Management Improvement from 1989 to 1991. From 1984 to 1988, Moley was with the Health Care Financing Administration as a Special Assistant to the Administrator, Associate Administrator Operations and the Director of the Office of Prepaid Health Care. Moley is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and recipient of the Purple Heart.

The President intends to nominate Margaret Chiara to be United States Attorney for the Western District of Michigan. She has served since 1999 as the Policy and Planning Director for the Office of the Chief Justice of the Michigan Supreme Court. From 1987 to 1998, she was Administrator of the Trial Court Assessment Commission, and she was a Prosecuting Attorney in the Cass County District Attorney's Office from 1982 to 1996. Before joining the District Attorney's Office she was an Associate with French and Lawrence in Cassopolis from 1979 to 1982. She received her undergraduate degree from Fordham University, a Master's degree from Pace University and her J.D. from Rutgers University Law School.

The President intends to nominate Terrell Lee Harris to be United States Attorney for the Western District of Tennessee. He is currently the Assistant District Attorney General for the Shelby County District Attorney's Office where he has served since 1987. From 1986 to 1987, he was an Associate with Kirkpatrick, Kirkpatrick and Efird in Memphis. Harris is a graduate of Rhodes College and the University of Mississippi Law School.

The President intends to nominate Jim Ming Greenlee to be United States Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi. He is presently the Interim U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Mississippi and has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 1987. From 1985 to 1987, he was an Attorney with Taylor, Jones, Alexander, Greenlee, Seale and Ryan, and he was an Attorney with Taylor and Whitehall from 1981 to 1985. He received both his undergraduate and law degrees from the University of Mississippi.

The President intends to nominate Gregory F. Van Tatenhove to be United States Attorney for the Eastern District of Kentucky. He is currently the Chief of Staff and Legal Counsel to Congressman Ron Lewis. From 1990 to 1994, he was a Trial Attorney in the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. He is a graduate of Asbury College and the University of Kentucky School of Law.

The President intends to nominate Stephen Beville Pence to be United States Attorney for the Western District of Kentucky. He has been a Partner with Pedley, Zielke, Gordinier and Pence in Louisville since 1996 and is a Lieutenant Colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve JAG Corps. He was a Partner with Sheffer and Hoffman from 1995 to 1996, and served in the U.S. Attorney's Office for the Western District of Kentucky from 1990 to 1995. From 1988 to 1990, he was an Associate with Borowitz and Goldsmith, and from 1987 to 1988, he was an Associate with Taustine and Post. Pence received his undergraduate and M. B. A from Eastern Kentucky University and received his law degree from the University of Kentucky.

The President intends to nominate Robert J. Conrad to be United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. He is currently the Interim United States Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina and has been an Assistant U.S. Attorney since 1989. Conrad was the Chief of the Justice Department's Campaign Finance Task Force from 2000 until this year. From 1983 to 1989, Conrad was an attorney in private practice first with Michie, Hamlett, Donato and Lowry from 1983 to 1986, with Horn and Conrad from 1986 to 1987, in independent practice from 1987 to 1988 and then with Bush, Thurman and Conrad from 1988 to 1989. He is a graduate of Clemson University and the University of Virginia Law School.
