What is Historic Preservation?It is the caretakers of historic properties belonging to the American people recognizing and preserving America's past for future generations. Why do we care about historic preservation?We care about it because Congress mandated that Federal agencies integrate historic preservation into their mission activities. The American people care about it. Historic Preservation OfficeThe office is located in Washington, DC, in the Office of Facilities Management, Veterans Health Administration, Department of Veterans Affairs. There is one professional staff architect on the staff. The Department of Veterans Affairs does not maintain veterans military service or patient residency records. For information on history or genealogical research, please contact the individual VA Medical Center/Hospital or VA National Cemetery facility involved. For Burial Records in VA National Cemeteries, only, go to Locating Veterans Burial Records. The main repository for Veterans-related records is the National Archives and Records Administration. For basic Genealogical information, visit the Genealogy Search site. For Military Service or Veterans Pension Records, visit the Military Records or Veterans Service Records sites.
