Guidelines for Submissions to Prologue
Prologue welcomes articles based in whole or in part upon the holdings
and programs of the National Archives and Records Administration. Prologue
does not accept articles that are politically partisan or that deal with contemporary
political issues.
Articles are selected by the editors in consultation with experts. The editors reserve the right to make changes in articles accepted for publication and will consult the author should substantive questions arise. Published articles do not necessarily represent the views of NARA or any other agency of the U.S. Government.
Guidelines for Authors
Prospective authors are encouraged to discuss their work with the editors prior
to submission and provide a summary of the proposed article. Prologue
seeks both short features (6001,000 words) and extended articles on historical
subjects (up to 7,000 words). Articles should be directed at the general reader
with an interest in history.
Because Prologue articles should be based on NARA records, we do request
a list of sources. We prefer that the direct source references be woven into
the text; a general "Note on Sources" will appear in print at the
end of the article. Traditional footnotes or extended source documentation may
be published in a web version of the article.
