Record/Image Displays

When one or more records match your search, you will be presented with a display that briefly lists the relevant records. When you select a particular record from this list, you will be presented with a full record display. Some full record displays include digital images (gifs), which, in many cases, can be clicked on to see larger versions of the image (jpeg and, usually, tif) and sometimes additional versions.

Technical Notes On Digital Images

Most of the digital images were made by copying the images onto 35 mm. film and then scanning the filmed images. The scanning has been done over the course of several years. How to Order Copies of Items

Copies of most images listed in the Prints and Photographs Online Catalog can be ordered from the Library of Congress Photoduplication Service. NOTE: If the MEDIUM field lists more than one item, further selection will be required before photographic copies of individual items can be ordered. In general, the Photoduplication Service can provide xeroxes of images made after 1900.

NOTE: The Library of Congress can neither grant nor deny permission to use images. If you are planning to publish or exhibit images obtained from the Library of Congress, you may wish to consult the document, " Copyright and Other Restrictions Which Apply to the Publication and Other Forms of Distribution of Images: Sources of Information", available from the Prints & Photographs Reading Room Home Page.
