		A significant audience for Planning and Evaluation Service (PES) materials is policymakers, and much of this Web site is organized around providing information to men and women who think in terms of legislation, authorization, appropriation, rulemaking, grant writing, and other government functions. Of equal importance is the information that will help our schools to improve over time. The American public consistently rates education among its top national priorities. The public rightly expects the U.S. Department of Education (ED), in partnership with states, communities, institutions, and other Federal agencies, to carry out its responsibilities to effectively and efficiently support educational excellence and equity for all children. Our Critical Topics in Education materials are designed to share information with administrators, teachers, parents, and anyone who cares about the future of education and the quality of that education for our children.
