Program Direction

Vision

A Safe, More Water-Efficient Society

Mission

The primary mission of this national program is twofold: to develop innovative concepts for determining the movement of water and its associated constituents in agricultural landscapes and watersheds and to develop new and improved practices, technologies, and strategies to manage the Nation's agricultural water resources.  These advances will provide food and fiber producers, local communities, and resource management agencies with the tools they need to improve water conservation and water use efficiency in irrigated and dryland agriculture, enhance water quality, protect rural communities from the ravages of floods and droughts, and prevent the degradation of riparian areas, wetlands, and stream corridors.
