Joan A. Causey

DFAS, Dayton Field Site Director

Joan A. Causey is the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Dayton Field Site director. DFAS Dayton provides base-level finance and accounting services to the Air Force, Air Force Reserve Command, and the Air National Guard installations and sites throughout the United States.

Causey was born in Sidney, Neb. She graduated from Buena High School, Sierra Vista, Ariz., in 1969. She earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration with a major in management from Golden Gate University, San Francisco, Calif., in 1993 (Cum Laude) and a master’s degree in business administration with a major in management from Golden Gate University in 1995.

She completed Air Command and Staff College and the Comptroller’s Staff Officers courses in 1990 and the Professional Military Comptrollers Course in 1991. Causey received her certification as an Acquisition Professional U.S. Air Force in 1993 and a Certified Defense Financial Manager in 2000.

Causey entered U.S. Civil Service as a keypunch operator at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., in 1969. She entered the professional accountant career field in March 1985 as the chief, Travel Accounting, McClellan Air Force Base, Calif. Causey became a systems accountant in the Management and Procedures Division in January 1986. In April 1989 she was promoted and moved to the chief, Stock Fund Accounts Payable Unit, Commercial Services Division. In October 1990 she was again promoted, to the chief, Stock Fund Reporting Unit, Materiel Division. In March 1993, Causey was reassigned to the chief, Accounts Control Division. In February 1994, she was promoted to the chief, Management and Procedures Division, where she remained until her transfer to the Limestone Operating Location in April 1995. Upon her arrival, Causey assumed the position of the chief, Systems Management Office. In October 1996, she was promoted to deputy director for Finance. In December 1997, Causey transferred to the Regional Accounting and Finance Office, Ramstein Air Base, Germany, as the senior accountant for the United States Air Forces in Europe. In June 1999, the RAFO was capitalized by the Defense Finance and Accounting Service Europe and Causey was transferred to the deputy director for Accounting, Air Force Operations. In March 2001 Causey was reassigned to the principal deputy, DFAS Europe and in June 2002 she assumed her previous position as director, DFAS Europe. Causey joined the DFAS Dayton Field Site as its new director effective June 2003.

Causey’s awards include USAFE–Accounting and Finance Civilian of the Year 1998, Denver Senior Staff Civilian of the Year 1995, DFAS Limestone-Senior Staff Civilian of the Quarter-October-December 1995, DFAS On-the-Spot Awards and Special Act or Service Awards in 1995, 1996 and 1997, with 30 performance awards throughout her career.
