The Defense Finance and Accounting Service Japan, located
at Yokota Air Base was activated August 1, 1997, as part
of the consolidation of DoD finance and accounting operations
in the Pacific theatre. A four Service operation, DFAS
Japan is the first site where the majority (72% of the
work force) is paid for by a foreign government, the Government
of Japan.
Directed by Wayne Ingle, the
DFAS Japan mission is to provide a full range of finance
and accounting services to over 200 Department of Defense
Activities in Japan and the Western Pacific, the people
who defend America. This includes accounting, financial
reporting, vendor pay, and disbursing services for geographically
dispersed Air Force, Army, Navy and Marine activities.
DFAS Japan also processes reimbursements for the Government
of Japan for the Cost Sharing Program and accommodates
the complexities associated with foreign currency payments,
limited depository accounts and foreign currency fluctuation
accounts.
Monthly Services include approximately:
$109 million total disbursements
5,098 invoices to include transportation bills
$74 million in yen payments to foreign vendors
