Welcome

Mark your calendar now and plan to attend the Symposium on Cardiovascular Regenerative Medicine on September 13-14, 2004 .

Sponsored by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute and the Foundation for the National Institutes of Health, this symposium will focus on adult stem cell therapies for cardiovascular disease, highlighting both basic research and clinical applications. Research experts involved in the basic science of stem cell biology, as well as clinical cardiovascular medicine experts, will discuss the emerging science, preclinical animal models, and the clinical applications to cardiovascular disease.

Symposium Goals:

  • To provide a forum that will stimulate discussion regarding basic principles of stem cell biology.
  • To emphasize recent discoveries that will facilitate moving stem cell biology toward the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
  • To identify the areas of opportunity for application of cell-based therapies for cardiovascular disease.
  • To facilitate the clinical implementation of cell-based therapies for cardiovascular disease.

Abstracts, to be presented during the poster session on September 13, are requested and encouraged. Guidelines for submission are on the website. This social hour will provide an opportunity for informal discussions and the development of new collaborative interactions.

Great potential exists for future applications of stem cell biology to the treatment of cardiovascular diseases. Our challenge is to bridge the gap between knowledge and clinical applications. We hope that you will find the information and discussion in this symposium stimulating to your own research efforts.

We look forward to seeing you in September.
