Mammalian Genotyping Service

The NHLBI Mammalian Genotyping Service (MGS) provides high quality, reliable, and rapid genotyping services to support genetic studies aimed at identifying genes in all disease areas. Genotyping with microsatellite DNA polymorphisms began at Marshfield Medical Research Foundation in July, 1995, at an initial rate of 300,000 genotypes per year.

Currently the capacity of the NHLBI MGS is 10 million genotypes per year. There is no charge to use the NHLBI MGS. Presently, gene mapping projects for human, mouse, rat, dog, and zebrafish studies can be accommodated.

Only projects involving more than 10,000 genotypes can be considered. To ensure that the most promising projects are undertaken, potential users of the service submit a brief request to the NHLBI MGS.

Studies are accepted two times a year, at the end of March and the end of September. An submission outline and additional information can be found on the Marshfield Center for Medical Genetics Web site (at: http://research.marshfieldclinic.org/genetics/Genotyping_Service/mgsver2.htm) or by contacting the NHLBI MGS by:
phone: 715-389-3525,
