September 17, 2002
On September 17, 2002, the
215th anniversary of the
signing of the Constitution,
employees all around the
country took pictures of
the activities in their workplace
in order to document “a day
in the life” of the National
Archives and Records Administration
(NARA).
The result of this effort was literally hundreds of photos that capture the range of tasks involved in our mission to preserve and provide access to the essential evidence of our Government.
From a morning announcement by the President that NARA would play a key part in a new history and civics education initiativeto a naturalization ceremony at the Kennedy Libraryto an evening celebration of Constitution Day in Philadelphia, the day was a full one all across the agency.
And along with the special events, we can see staffers doing what they do every dayassisting researchers, preserving records, processing requests for information, greeting visitors, and all the other jobs that keep NARA running.
Here are just a few of the pictures that show our day as an agency. We hope
you enjoy this “behind the scenes” look at the people and places of the National
Archives and Records Administration.
