Postdoctoral Position: Modeling of Primate Saccadic Eye Movements

With nation-wide responsibility for improving the health and well being of all Americans, the Department of Health and Human Services oversees the biomedical research programs of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and those of NIH's research Institutes. The National Eye Institute, a major research component of the NIH and the Department of Health and Human Services, is recruiting for a Postdoctoral to support a research program in the Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research.

A postdoctoral fellowship is available now for the neuromimetic modeling of neuronal activity in the brain stem, cerebrum and cerebellum during rapid eye movements. The goal of this research is to develop mathematical models of how the brain controls saccades, and to test those models experimentally. The candidate will receive training and/or will be exposed to many techniques in experimental and theoretical aspects of understanding sensory/motor integration. Applicants must have received a Ph.D. and/or M.D. degree within the last 5 years; experience in physical, mathematical or engineering modeling, a neuroscience background, excellent writing skills, and a strong analytical and quantitative background are preferred.

To apply please send a cover letter, three letters of recommendation and curriculum vitae to: Dr. Lance M. Optican, Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research, Bldg. 49, Room 2A50, National Eye Institute, NIH, Bethesda, MD, 20892-4435, USA. Deadline is May 15, 2003.

NIH/NEI is an equal opportunity employer
