Total Maximum Daily Load Program
A TMDL, or Total Maximum Daily Load, is a tool for implementing water quality standards and is based on the relationship between pollution sources and in-stream water quality conditions. The TMDL establishes the allowable loadings or other quantifiable parameters for a waterbody and thereby provides the basis to establish water quality-based controls. These controls should provide the pollution reduction necessary for a waterbody to meet water quality standards. |

What's New A new version (3.1) of the Better Assessment Science Integrating point and Nonpoint Sources (BASINS) software system has been released. BASINS supports the objectives of facilitating examination of environmental information, supporting analysis of environmental systems, and providing a framework for examining management alternatives. More for information and to download the model please visit http://epa.gov/waterscience/basins/
EPA approved Washington Department of Ecology's submittal of fecal coliform bacteria TMDL for the Issaquah Creek Basin on October 1, 2004.
EPA approved Idaho and Oregon Department of Environmental Quality's submittal of Phosphorus, Dissolved Oxygen, Temperature, Sediment, Pesticide and Total Dissolved Gas TMDLs for the Snake River - Hells Canyon as described in EPA's press release.
The Snake River-Hells Canyon TMDL can be found on both State's websites at Oregon DEQ's website or Idaho DEQ's website.
