Mission:

CIO provides DISA a secure, state-of-the-art network and information technology (IT) infrastructure; corporate IT policy; enterprise applications; knowledge management; transformation and process improvement consulting services; and enterprise architecture and IT capital planning that promote effective and efficient business processes in support of a wide range of Agency and Department of Defense IT initiatives.

The Information Technology Division (ITD) creates and coordinates IT policy, principles, standards and guidelines. It provides technical support for the implementation of DoD systems and capabilities such as Web sites, smart cards, biometrics, messaging, and public key infrastructure (PKI) within DISA. ITD chairs or participates in special IT task forces, intra and interagency studies, and research and development(R&D) efforts. The division develops the DISA enterprise architecture.

The Enterprise Systems Division (ESD) develops and maintains the internal DISA enterprise applications and solutions, such as the DISA Enterprise Portal. It manages the internal Defense Message System policy guidance and practices for DISA. ESD coordinates policy for enterprise software initiatives.

The Transformation Solutions Division (TSD) conducts organizational and process improvement projects such as strategic planning, process modeling, business reengineering, budget and project planning, decision support, team building and leadership transition. Develops and administers customer satisfaction surveys and provides analysis of associated data. Maintains a group decision support facility for collaborative meetings for DoD organizations. Develops and implements the DISA Knowledge Management Program and chairs the DISA KM Council.

The Business Management Division (BMD) provides overall fiscal direction and budgeting for the day-to-day operation of CIO. The division manages resources in support of DISA's information systems, and prepares supporting documentation for CIO IT technical support contracts and requirements. BMD monitors contract performance and implements efficient methods to acquire, track and deliver products to the customer.

The Information Resource Management (IRM) Division develops and promulgates policy on the use of information resources and integrates information requirements into the business processes of the Agency. It incorporates the requirements of legislation such as the Clinger-Cohen Act, Federal Records Act, Government Paperwork Elimination Act, and E-government Act. IRM ensures a disciplined IT/IM investment process is fully implemented and maintained, and manages the DISA Information Technology Board chaired by CIO.

The Information Assurance Division (IAD) develops and promulgates DoD IA policy, standards and guidelines. It performs staff level systems accreditation functions and manages the associated certification and accreditation database. IAD supports the DoD initiative to defend against malicious cyber activity and achieve a common level of information security.
