The goal of NASA's Genesis mission is to collect and return to Earth 10 to 20 micrograms of solar wind from outside the influence of Earth's magnetic field. Scientists will preserve this smidgen of the Sun in an exclusive laboratory for study over the next century in search of answers to fundamental questions about the composition of our star and the birth of our solar system. Genesis is scheduled to return its samples in early September 2004.
