1st Marine Division signs several construction, repair contracts

AR RAMADI, IRAQ -- THE WAY AHEAD:

The 1st Marine Division is currently focused on destroying Anti-Iraqi Forces in the Al Anbar province. Simultaneously, the Marines are establishing a patient, persistent presence in the key areas throughout the province while supporting the development of competent, trustworthy, Iraqi Security Forces and conducting civil military operations.

CIVIL MILITARY OPERATIONS:

Marines received 105 bids for road projects in the Fallujah area. Evaluation of the bids is being undertaken now with the Fallujah Road and Bridges Department manager. Engineers with the 1st Marine Division also plan on soliciting plans for projects to improve four secondary schools in Fallujah, at an estimated cost of $4 million.

Civil affairs teams signed a contract to repair the Civil Camp Iraqi Police Station near Ramadi at an estimated cost of $30,100. The initial payment of $20,000 was made to the contractor to start work. Work is expected to be completed within 30-40 days.

Civil affairs teams also signed contracts for several projects near Ramadi, including:

Abu Fleis Medical Clinic
Iraqi Civil Defense Corps Headquarters compound, estimated cost of $63,000
ICDC Company Headquarters compound, estimated cost of $130,500
Headquarters in Civil Camp, estimated cost of $109,000
