Transportation Audits Collections Management

GSA initiates actions to collect debts owed the U.S. government by Transportation Service Providers (TSP), and assists the Department of Justice on behalf of the United States in bankruptcy and other related debts. It coordinates and tracks debt collection through other government agencies by automated internal processes and collection technicians. Deduction action is taken through various agencies including an electronic process with the Defense Finance and Accounting Service (DFAS), Indianapolis.

If a notice of overcharge is not protested or paid within 60 days of issuance, an automatic deduction process will be initiated. If a resolution fails through one of the government finance centers, a collection technician will contact the TSP and request payment or an explanation of non-payment. Follow up letters or phone calls are implemented to expedite closure of the case.

Repayment agreements and other arrangements are available for handling debts with TSPs. If the TSP neglects to respond or pay the debt due the government, the case is referred to the Department of Justice for action.
