Using These Tables

The Healthy Women tables provided on this site can be viewed online, without downloading extra software, or on your computer by downloading the Beyond 20/20® Browser. Viewing tables in the browser allows the user more control and flexibility.  Viewing tables online is best for occasional use or quick access, and does not require downloading software.

elect the Web View Icon icon for the table you would like to view.  A default table opens, which can be customized by making selections in the Selection and Options menus.

Detailed Example Using Smoking Status Data

Expanded tables graphicBeyond 20/20® Browser
To use the browser, you must first download it, which requires 6 MB of space on your hard drive.  After downloading the browser, click on the Expanded tables graphic icon next to the table you would like to use. This allows you to download the table to your computer. When the download is complete, choose the Open button.

Detailed Example Using Mortality Data

Data Technical Notes
The underlying data used to create these tables originates from mortality or natality data sets and the Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System. The technical notes provide important information on data sources, statistical methods used, and references to corresponding publications. Please see the appropriate technical information below when using Healthy Women tables. 

bullet graphic Mortality Technical Notes
These tables present descriptive tabulations of information reported on the death certificates.  Death certificates are completed by funeral directors, attending physicians, medical examiners, and coroners.  Original records are filed in the state registration offices.  Statistical information is compiled into a national data base through the Vital Statistics Cooperative Program of NCHS.  For a full description of the data and random variation, see the NCHS mortality website

These tables present descriptive tabulations of information reported on the birth certificates.  Standard forms for the collection of the data and model procedures for the uniform registration of the events are developed and recommended for State use through cooperative activities of the States and NCHS. Statistical information is compiled into a national data base through the Vital Statistics Cooperative Program of NCHS.  For a full description of the data and random variation, see the NCHS birth data website.

The Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System (BRFSS) tracks health risks through continuous telephone surveys by each state.  Major risks associated with premature morbidity and mortality among adults are included.  For more information regarding the data used in these tables, please see the BRFSS website.
