NOTICE: SIGNIFICANT GRANT PROPOSAL GUIDE CHANGES
A critical new requirement for proposals received since January 1, 2002, is that (1) the intellectual merit of the proposed activity; and (2) the broader impacts resulting from the proposed activity must be addressed explicitly in both the project summary and project description. While Investigators routinely address the Intellectual Merit criterion, treatment of Broader Impacts has been inconsistent. Both criteria must be addressed. NSF policy states that proposals not consistent with these instructions may not be considered by NSF. Please help us avoid taking this drastic action by ensuring you pay careful attention and address both criteria in your proposal.

New Deadline for REU Proposals
The deadline date for REU proposals has been changed. The new deadline is August 16th annually. A new program solicitation will be issued in Spring 2004 and will be linked to the NSF REU web site.

Earth Sciences

Division of Earth Sciences Data Sharing Policy
This statement provides guidelines from the Division of Earth Sciences (EAR), National Science Foundation, for the implementation of the Foundation's Data Sharing Policy. The overall purpose and fundamental objective of these policy statements is to ensure and facilitate full and open access to quality data for research and education in the Earth Sciences. These guidelines are considered to be a binding condition on all EAR-supported projects.
