President Bush Announced His Intention to Nominate Snow to be Secretary of the Treasury
President George W. Bush today announced his intention to nominate
one individual to serve as a member of his administration:
The President intends to nominate John W. Snow of Virginia, to be
Secretary of the Treasury. Dr. Snow is currently the Chairman and
Chief Executive Officer of CSX Corporation, where he has served since
1977. He is presently the co-chairman of the Conference Board's
Blue-Ribbon Commission on Public Trust and Private Enterprise. He
previously served as co-chairman of the National Commission on
Financial Institution Reform, Recovery and Enforcement. From 1994 to
1996 Dr. Snow served as the Chairman of the Business Roundtable.
Earlier in his career, he has served as a Visiting Professor
Economics at the University of Virginia, Adjunct Professor of Law at
George Washington University Law School and Assistant Professor of
Economics at the University of Maryland. His previous public service
includes Administrator of the National Highway Traffic Safety
Administration and while at the Department of Transportation he served
as Deputy Undersecretary, Assistant Secretary for the Governmental
affairs, and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy, Plans and
International Affairs.
Dr. Snow is a 1962 graduate of the University of Toledo. He went
on to earn a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Virginia in
1965, and later received a law degree from George Washington University
in 1967.
