Authenticating the
Booth Deringer
On April 15, 1865,
in Washington, DC, an actor named John Wilkes Booth achieved
historical immortality by firing the shot that claimed the life
of Abraham Lincoln. In 1997, the FBI Laboratory was assigned
to determine beyond a reasonable doubt whether the Deringer pistol
displayed at Ford's Theatre is the same pistol pictured in historical
photographs pre-dating the 1960s. Read about the weapon that
created the fatal rippleBooth's Deringer pistol.
