Authenticating the Booth Deringer

On April 15, 1865, in Washington, DC, an actor named John Wilkes Booth achieved historical immortality by firing the shot that claimed the life of Abraham Lincoln. In 1997, the FBI Laboratory was assigned to determine beyond a reasonable doubt whether the Deringer pistol displayed at Ford's Theatre is the same pistol pictured in historical photographs pre-dating the 1960s.
